Cruelty Free

Our hens spend their days the way nature intended—roaming and foraging across 70 acres of pasture for 12–14 hours each day before settling in to rest at night in our mobile coops.

Earth Friendly

These coops are rotated throughout the farm, allowing the hens constant access to fresh insects, seeds, and vegetation while preventing overuse of the land. This regenerative practice, known as rotational grazing, supports healthy soil and thriving ecosystems.

Full Circle

After the coops are moved, a cover crop is planted to restore the soil, capture carbon, and make use of the natural nutrients left behind by the hens. This cycle helps regenerate the land while producing high-quality eggs.

Innovative

Our mobile coops feature fully automatic doors powered exclusively by wind and solar energy. Sensors detect sunrise and sunset, allowing the doors to open and close automatically to protect the hens from predators. Cameras placed inside and outside the coops help us monitor their safety and wellbeing.

Pesticide Free

To naturally prevent pests such as mites and fleas, we use diatomaceous earth, a safe and chemical-free solution. Seasonally, leftover pumpkins are served as a natural dewormer.

All Organic Diet

From hatch to 16 weeks of age, our chicks are fed a certified organic, non-corn, non-soy chick starter to support healthy early development. At 16 weeks, the hens are moved to our mobile coops and begin life on pasture, where they forage freely for insects, seeds, and native vegetation across the farm. In addition to their natural foraging diet, the hens receive a certified organic, non-corn, non-soy protein layer blend to support balanced nutrition and consistent egg production.

Our Values

Most poultry farms rely on a small number of highly productive breeds chosen solely for their egg-laying efficiency. This approach maximizes profit margins but often prioritizes production over diversity and natural behavior.

At Rancho San Gregorio, we take a different approach. We hatch many of our own chicks from carefully selected specialty breeds known for their unique egg colors and strong natural foraging abilities.

While many of our hens are not as prolific as standard commercial white or brown layers, that’s intentional. Because our farm has ample pasture and sustainable feed sources, we can focus on quality, diversity, and animal welfare rather than maximizing egg output.

The result is something special. Our eggs feature larger, richer yolks and stronger shells, and their colors range across a beautiful spectrum—from soft blues and greens to deep browns and speckled tones. We like to call them “rainbow eggs” because of the vibrant variety produced by our flock.
