Over 1,000 native redwoods planted, and counting!

Who We Are, Where We Came From, and Where We’re Headed

Welcome to Rancho San Gregorio, a 127-acre regenerative farm in the Bay Area. We’re advancing sustainable agriculture through innovative technology that builds healthy soil and strengthens our community. Our work supports the land, local partnerships, and a more resilient future for food and farming.

How We Do It

We believe in the power of nature to rejuvenate and sustain our planet. Our regenerative farm is a testament to this philosophy, utilizing a meticulous balance of plants, animals, soil, and technology to create a thriving ecosystem.

  • Why?

Rotational grazing is important because it improves soil health, pasture productivity, animal performance, and long-term farm resilience—all at the same time.

    How It's Done

The ranch provides mobile chicken coops and fenced pasture to support a thoughtful rotational grazing system. Livestock are moved through designated paddocks to graze briefly and evenly, allowing grasses time to recover, while chickens follow in mobile coops to help spread nutrients and manage insects.

  • Why?

Cover cropping is used to protect and rebuild soil by preventing erosion, feeding soil microbes, and improving water retention and fertility between growing seasons.

    How It's Done

We sow fast-growing plants in fields or pastures when they would otherwise be bare, such as between grazing rotations or after harvest. The cover crop is allowed to grow to protect the soil and build organic matter, then it is grazed, mowed, or rolled down before it goes to seed, leaving the plant material on the ground to feed the soil and retain moisture.

  • Why?

Composting turns waste into a nutrient-rich soil amendment that improves soil health, reduces waste, and supports healthier plants and pastures.

    How It's Done

Composting on the ranch is achieved by collecting organic materials like manure, bedding, and plant waste and managing them in compost piles so they can break down naturally over time. The finished compost is then returned to our fields and pastures to improve soil fertility, boost microbial life, and support healthy plant growth.

  • Why?

Biodiversity is the variety of plants, animals, insects, and microorganisms in an ecosystem, and it is essential for healthy, resilient land.

    How It's Done

The ranch supports biodiversity by raising multiple types of livestock and growing a wide range of heirloom plant varieties using rotational cropping and intercropping. This diversity strengthens soil health, reduces pests and disease naturally, and creates a balanced, resilient ecosystem across the farm.
