Historical Ties
Rancho San Gregorio was part of a Mexican land grant given by Governor Juan Alvarado to Antonio Buelna in 1839. Covering 17,783 acres in present day San Mateo County, the land was divided into parcels until it eventually became our 127-acre ranch.
At the heart of the land stood the farmhouse. Built in the 1860s, it's been well-preserved and still has the original foundational redwood logs it was set upon - a testament to the resilience and strength of these trees.
Our Story
In 2016, Rancho San Gregorio came under new ownership. With fertile soil, rolling green hills, and expansive redwood forests, we saw the potential to study the relationship between humans and the planet.
From the start, our goal has been to create a mutually beneficial relationship with the land by growing food and supporting research efforts in a responsible, sustainable way. We prioritize conservation through increasing biodiversity, maintaining healthy soil, and supporting our community. We don't use any chemical pesticides or fertilizers that might offer short-term conveniences over the long-term health of our plants, animals, and people.
